Living Lightly - Natural Pest Management Workshop

Discover practical ways to manage garden pests while supporting a healthy, productive and biodiverse garden.

In this workshop, we’ll explore how to identify some common garden pests, recognise the signs they leave behind and understand why pest problems occur. Rather than reaching immediately for a spray, we’ll look at a range of simple strategies that can help prevent problems and reduce damage while protecting the wider garden ecosystem.

We’ll explore the role of beneficial insects and other garden helpers, and how planting choices, healthy soil, biodiversity and habitat can help create a more naturally balanced garden. We’ll also look at practical approaches such as barriers and exclusion, companion planting, monitoring, hand removal and other low-impact pest-management options.

We’ll consider how to decide when action is actually needed, what might be eating your plants, and how to choose an appropriate response without unnecessarily harming pollinators and other beneficial species.

Whether you grow vegetables, fruit, herbs, ornamentals or a little of everything, this session will give you practical ideas for managing common garden challenges in a more thoughtful and environmentally friendly way.

This workshop is part of the Living Lightly series, delivered by Harriet Pellizzer in partnership with Bass Coast Shire Council.

Registration is essential so we can keep in contact if there are any changes and ensure adequate materials for participants.
