Living Lightly - Food Forests and Dwarf Orchards

Discover how to grow abundant, low maintenance food systems with food forests and dwarf orchards. This workshop explores how to design layered, productive spaces using a mix of fruit trees, shrubs, herbs, and groundcovers that work together to support soil health, biodiversity, and ongoing harvests. Learn the basics of food forest principles, plant selection, and how dwarf fruit trees can be used to maximise yield in smaller spaces.

These principles can be applied in a range of settings, from small home gardens to larger properties, making them accessible no matter the size of your space.

We’ll look at practical ways to get started at home, whether you have a backyard, a small garden, or are looking to expand an existing growing area over time.

Perfect for beginners or those wanting to build on their gardening knowledge, this session focuses on achievable steps, long term thinking, and creating resilient, productive spaces.

This session is part of the Living Lightly series and is delivered by Bass Coast Adult Learning in partnership with Bass Coast Shire Council.

Registration is essential so we can keep in contact if there are any changes and ensure adequate materials for participants.
